A naïve television weather forecaster finds herself torn between two men – a gnarled novelist and a capricious young heir – with fatal consequences. Chabrol’s penultimate feature crackles with class contempt, in which a woman becomes, quite literally, an object of possession, and the crime feels less like an aberration than an expression of the same entitlement that preceded it.

Contains scenes of graphic violence or injury, domestic violence or abuse, and sexist attitudes and language.
