After his mother’s death during Brazil’s economic collapse, a young man travels to Lisbon and becomes entangled in a smuggling operation. Shot in stark black and white, this transnational noir captures a generation marked by displacement. A foundational Retomada film – key works that revitalised the country’s film industry between 1995 and 2002 – it announced Brazilian cinema’s global return.
