During a visit to Earth an alien finds itself stranded, finding shelter in the home of 10-year-old Elliott, who shows him the world and tries to protect him from the adults in it. The two develop a sensory bond and friendship as they work to get E.T. home, which builds up to a thrilling climactic bike chase to evade the authorities. The final, tearful sequence remains one of the most sublime moments in Hollywood blockbuster entertainment.
