Miranda has high hopes when she moves from rural Connecticut to a lavish yet ghostly mansion, where she is employed as a governess to its owner’s daughter. But her life gradually becomes a nightmare. Both Tierney and Price are superb, revealing the emotional and psychological evolution of their characters. They’re aided in no small part by Alfred Newman’s haunting score and Arthur C. Miller’s evocative cinematography.
