A perfect collaboration between two artists (Two-Lane Blacktop co-writer Wurlitzer and The Americans photographer Frank), Candy Mountain mines American mythology, road movie iconography and nihilistic drift. Featuring a cavalcade of musician cameos, the film explores the state of the US counter-culture, the dichotomy between art and commerce, and the interior journey toward selfhood.
The screening of Candy Mountain on Wednesday 1 July will be introduced by Jason Wood, BFI Executive Director for Public Programmes and Audiences.
BFI Southbank will be closed Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 June due to a private event. BFI Riverfront will be closed on 9 July until 5pm. It will re-open in the evening.
