Dave, a rudderless working-class teen from Indiana, owns an Italian-made bike and is obsessed with that country’s racing scene. He spends his days with his three friends, also adrift post-high school, frequently clashing with affluent university students. When the opportunity to take part in a local bicycle race arises, it is the moment for Dave and his friends to prove their worth. An Oscar-winning (Best Original Screenplay) joy, Breaking Away is guaranteed to make you want to take up the sport.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the 10 June screening won't include an introduction.
BFI Southbank will be closed Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 June due to a private event. BFI Riverfront will be closed on 9 July until 5pm. It will re-open in the evening.
