Hitchcock’s classic thriller, his third adaptation of a Daphne du Maurier tale after Jamaica Inn and Rebecca, sees birds randomly attack the sleepy Californian community of Bodega Bay. From this unusual premise – and most unlikely of antagonists – the filmmaker crafts a masterfully suspenseful tale that is by turns shocking and tense, with special effects that continue to disturb.
The screening of The Birds on Wednesday 11 March will be introduced by Professor Lucy Bolton, Queen Mary University of London.
