Chadha’s feature debut, a warm, charming and astute tale of discovery and togetherness, announced the arrival of an expert chronicler of class, race and politics. It chronicles a women’s community group as they travel to the coast, from Birmingham to Blackpool, for a day out. The narrative gently captures relations between the women as they get to know each other. Over 30 years later, it stands as a poignant snapshot of 1990s Britain.
